the basics.. getting the right.

Since the last few posts, I took a few pics of the nursery to post on here to show the progress and where I want to take the room, but when I looked at the photos it became really obvious that I could ignore the gross carpet no more! The time has come to rip it up and replace it. Its just really hard to work on decorating a space when you don't have the basics right!  You find yourself constantly trying to find a way of either disguising the hideous thing or struggle to find a way to somehow incorporate it into a look you kinda like.  So far my attempt has been to do the first - hide it under a big white shaggy rug! and I must be truthful the attempt has been pretty lame and unfortunately the carpet still stands out like crazy!

I think its really important to get the basics right before layering on top! (and so my argument went when discussing the importance of new carpet with my husband the last few days) Quietly I think i've won the discussion.. and fingers crossed I think new carpet might just be on the cards Yippee!!!

I've looked a lot over the last few months at choices available and ummed and rrrrr'd about whether to go a darker charcoal or dark beige, or a light colour, texture or patterned... but I keep coming back to something very basic and very neutral. Mostly because my taste and style choices seem to change as quickly as my undies!  Its not uncommon for me to love blue one day then orange the next! Also it seems that unless you have an endless supply of cash to change your room as often as your taste changes, then its better to stick with a really neutral carpet like the below.

Here's a couple of pics of some neutral carpets that I think work well with several different styles and in different rooms  (PS How cute is the kids room below! I love it!)

Nursery inspiration pics.. take 2

Hi, i've had a few issues with some of the pics not appearing. So i thought id repost them and use it as an excuse to post a few other goodies that I found and love as well. I love the mix of the neutral tones with the bright pink. Against what I always said I wanted, but I really do love it now..  OH and good news on the blue carpet front.. I might have just twisted my husbands arm enough to let me get NEW carpet! Yay! Heres to hoping! Let me know if you're still having issues viewing the pics.

More blue/grey pics that I love to help convince myself that im making the right decision :-)

Further to my post yesterday about wanting to go are some other great images i've fallen in love with that are convincing me that I should definitely go for it!

I think the blue is really calming and fresh in these photos. Now thats it's officially spring and will very soon be summer I really want to inject more of a fresh happy colour like this into our home. I also love how white pops out against the blue.

So while i'm mid nursery decorating i'm also contemplating adding some more colour into my lounge room. I've found a colour I love.. but not sure about actually committing to it in my lounge room. In the past I would have turned my nose up at the idea of blue.. But I actually really like this colour.

The colour I like:

what do you think? Should I brave the blue?

Latest obsession..

12 weeks ago my husband and I welcomed our first little bubby into the world, a gorgeous little bundle of joy we named Georgia Vera.. She is absolutely adorable and has definately brought a new level of joy into our little family.

Of course with her new arrival came the exciting excuse for being able to decorate another room! Yay! a nursery!!!

Unfortunately however, this new exciting task has come with a multitude of limitations - 1. a teeny tiny budget (because i'm on maternity leave), 2, gross blue carpet that I cant afford to replace yet and 3, living in brisbane where access to great furniture and bedding and accessories don't exist..

I am excited by the challenge and figure that I will have to decorate it slowly as I find things that I love and that fit within my budget.

My inspiration:

I decided pretty early on that I wasn't a fan of the typical nursery design that everyone seems to be forced to go towards (because they don't sell anything else in the baby shops unless you're a millionaire).. you know the ones.. the country style matchy matchy ones where the bed spread matches the nappy sack which matches the sheets, bumper sides, floor mat, canvas print, pillows etc.. where most of the time they are either really washed out subdued colours or sickly sweet shades of pink and lavender.

I like nurseries that have a bit of interest, I don't particularly favour modern or classic, infact I prefer an infusion of both to be honest.. The most important thing for me is that the room feels warm comfortable and inviting.. and of course looks great!

Here are a couple I love that I found on various sites and blogs I subscribe to

I love the vintage feel to this room, and the bright colours! Gorgeous. I love that its not typically girly either.. This inspired me with my linen selection. I've gone towards a more vintage feel featuring brown and pink tones.. If only I could find a cot with as much character as this one! I would snatch it up in a heart beat!

Now although this is super modern, I loooove that it is not you're typical babyish nursery. Its funky and fun with bright pops of colour, but still manages to maintain a calmness through the wall colours, lighting and neutral toned carpet.

I love the bling factor with this room. While it is waaaay too OTT for me, i still love the details in the dresser, monogrammed pillows and I love the colour. This picture is what inspired me to actually use the sickly bright pink that up until now I have hated.. oh how things change :-)

Ill post some pics soon of how my nursery turned out.

finally getting started...

Hi everyone, this is officially my first post! I've been meaning to start a blog displaying and recording all my favourite interiors for aaaaaaages but never seemed to have the time. But now that im a stay at home, i have the luxury of a few snippets of time here and there to indulge in my love of blogging :-)

I hope you enjoy the treasures I find..
